Only two I’m keeping up with aside from Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans S2.
Girlish Number – This show is amusing and quite depressing in some ways. The one thing that really attracted me to this anime is that it shits on the corrupt anime industry that’s going on today. More specifically, I enjoyed the knock down on light novel writers by stereotyping them as super shy, unsociable otakus. Burn. But the main focus is on voice actors. Your main character, Chitose, is a girl who’s a rookie in voice acting career. Although arrogant, she’s quite entertaining and it’s fun seeing her facial expressions whenever tables get flipped against her. If you liked Shirobako, definitely pick this up.
Drifters – I love the concept of taking historical figures and putting them in a world where they team up and fight against each other. The humor though is kinda hit or miss at times. Same thing happened with Hellsing Ultimate considering it was by the same author. It’s balls to the wall bloody gory fun. I wish the antagonist side had more compelling characters. So far, we only got emphasis on Joan of Arc. With 10 eps in, I’m guessing it’ll most likely have a season 2 since the story is nowhere near finished.
This has been the weakest season as far as shows I’ve kept up with.
91 Days – 12 years ago (wow so much time has passed), I declared Gungrave as my all time favorite anime and nothing could ever stand on par with it since. This time, a show competent enough has stepped into the same level of Gungrave quality. Every episode has been stellar. Like Gungrave, it’s a mafia revenge story minus the sci-fi twists. This show is anime storytelling at its finest, a Shakespearean, how to write a good plot 101. Only spanning at 12 episodes total, you have no excuse to not watch this. It’s a must. Rating: 10/10
Mob Psycho 100 – Very entertaining and humorous throughout. By the same creator as One Punch Man. The sketchy animation style is quite unique leaving no animated shortcuts making it feel refreshing. If the studio decided to not continue with a 2nd season or sequel, I’d be completely fine with that. Rating: 9/10
Macross Delta – I really enjoyed the show and wanted to love it, but that last episode was basically a big FU from Shoji Kawamori. It was rushed, half assed, mostly unresolved, and just an unsatisfying conclusion. The finale doesn’t need to be Macross Frontier levels of action packed, but just give us a proper closure. After all that tease, we still don’t know who Lady M is. Although the love triangle was resolved, it was done so predictably because only one of the girls got enough emphasis in the relationship. I have no issues with Freyja being picked but Mirage was shafted so hard that it was hardly a love triangle to begin with. The villain’s motive was essentially the same as Grace from Macross Frontier trying to connect with everyone’s mind. So what’s gonna happen to Windemere now after they retreated? Just call it quits after that temporary alliance? The series needs an extra 10 eps or a sequel. IF they decide to do multi-part movies by alternate retelling the story, they better tell us who Lady M is at least. Rating: 8/10
Berserk – Not the adaptation we deserve, but the one we need. I thought the reception was so bad it wouldn’t merit a season 2 but apparently it did. Despite of the ugly visuals, I didn’t hate this show. It was about time to see Berserk that’s not the Golden Age arc. Overall, above average at best. I’ll watch season 2 but not excited for it. Rating: 6/10
Tales of Zestiria the X – Why can’t ufotable adapt Berserk instead of this trash? It’s funny how this show really pushes Alisha to be part of the main cast even though she plays small roles in the game. Also, what the hell were they thinking shoving Tales of Berseria in the middle? Sure I get they want to promote the game but not like this. I had absolutely no idea what Berseria had anything to do with Zestiria until I had to google it. Having two plots in a single show will only result in a mess. That Berseria insert should’ve been DVD only eps. The animation was godly but undeserved. Rating: 5/10
Now that Macross Delta is over, time to update this list. 🙂
To my surprise, the music in Delta ended up pretty good. Mikumo, Kaname, and Freyja being the standouts. Disappointingly though, Walkure is severely underutilized if this is all there is. Just imagine the merchandising potential this group has. 5 members, 5 times the music. They could easily release solo albums from each members singing all the songs individually. For example, if you don’t like Mikumo’s inclusion of the song, listen to the other versions. Anyways, let’s get this over with.
- Sheryl Nome starring May’n – Yousei (Macross Frontier)
- CMJK, Sharon Apple – INFORMATION HIGH (Macross PLUS)
- Walküre – Hametsu no Junjou (Macross Delta)
- Walküre – Kaze wa Yokoku Naku Fuku (Macross Delta)
- Walküre – Walküre Attack! (Macross Delta)
- Lynn Minmay – An Angel’s Paint (Macross: Do You Remember Love?)
- Fire Bomber – Remember 16 (Macross 7)
- May’n & Megumi Nakajima – Sayonara no Tsubasa ~ the end of triangle (Macross Frontier)
- Fire Bomber – Diamond Calling (Macross 7)
- Akino Arai – Idol Talk (Macross PLUS)
It’s been nearly 2 years since I done video bumpers for Shinjuku Station. I enjoyed my time editing these and relearning some techniques and gaining few new skills. With that said, this is my final bumper. Reason for that is, well, I wanted to reach the 10th mark of my bumper line and it’s time for me to step aside to let others shine.
I will continue video editing as I still have an unfinished AMV sitting on my hard drive for several years now and some new projects planned in the near future. I hope you enjoy this video. A lot of thought was put onto this when I first heard this amazing progressive house song. Shinkai’s gorgeous anime visuals matched the dreamy euphoric state of the music.
Here’s the bumperless version.
Lately, I’ve been listening to this nonstop. It’s catchy and well composed. Loving the guitar solo parts. The legit drumming also sounds nice! In case if anyone’s wondering, the song is from Macross Delta.
Finally I got around to compile this. The video is about all the con stuff I recorded during my stay. I wasn’t able to record as much as I wanted to due to some restrictions and the weight of my camera equipment causing some inconveniences around certain circumstances. Otherwise, enjoy! 🙂
91 Days – Fantastic show. Nearly every episode has been great. There has been no announcement on how long this will run but it doesn’t seem like a single cour type of show with the rate its going. Fango pulling an Aria Stark on that recent one got me a little sick to my stomach. If you like Gungrave or something very mature where the entire cast is full of adults, look no further.
The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance – A fantasy war series that undeservingly got the short run of the stick. As good as this show is, there’s one major flaw – Narsus. This guy’s a major hack. Not a single moment where his strategy has backfired on him. Not even Lelouch from Code Geass can compete with this guy. As I’m typing this, only one more episode remains.
Berserk – This new Berserk anime is tolerable at best. As much as I dislike the way its adapted, I’m enjoying the fact it’s not the Golden Age arc. It is confirmed to be a single cour. Why such a short run, I wonder. I find it funny that hardcore fans are so offended by this adaptation on a personal level, and yet they still continue to watch it.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable – 20 eps in and still no major villain. But that’s fine because these single story eps have been quite entertaining. The most recent ep involving Yukako and Koichi has been best ep by far.
Macross Delta – The one anime right now that’s got me most hyped every week. I’m loving the music despite of it from an idol group. The identity on who Lady M is is the mystery. There are some possible candidates. My money’s on Mylene from Macross 7. As for the love triangle, not much as progressed but Freya is winning by far.
Mob Psycho 100 – This anime is so well rounded that even my friends who aren’t big into the medium are into it. The animation is superb and the characters are just simply fun. On recent eps, things have gotten a little more serious but still retains the fun aspect.
Tales of Zestiria the X – While the visuals are overflowing with quality, the substance is severely lacking. The latest two eps introduces Berseria’s story which will take things in a confusing turn of events. Why not have Berseria’s story line be a separate entity like an OVA or DVD extra eps? Shoving 2 anime stories in 1 will result in a mess.
