What I’m Watching This Season

The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki)

Obviously, this was gonna be on my must watch list because it’s medieval fantasy. Honestly, I didn’t think it was gonna surpass my expectation. Like Yona of the Dawn, the plot got me completely hooked. There’s multitudes of conflicts going on. It’s going to be really interesting to see where Arslan will stand in this war. My biggest concern is, again like Yona, will this show have a complete story or are we gonna have to suffer through another open ending? While I haven’t watched all of the original 90s OVA, I definitely would like to watch it in conjunction with the TV series.

Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen)

The first episode left me confused when it introduced the world in a blazing speed while at the same time introducing the characters to us. Aside from that, Kekkai Sensen is entertaining as hell. Each episode gets better and better. It’s a good example of style over substance done right. Best way to describe this show is Baccano meets FLCL(?). Sorry, I’m having major brain farts right now. I’m sure someone else can think of a much better example. Anyways, it’s got fun supernatural action with tons of wacky characters that takes place is a bizarre world called Neo Jerusalem. The music though is quite groovy. The 6th episode where Leo befriends a mushroom dude who’s obsessed with cheeseburgers is my favorite episode up to date.
