anime review: Attack on Titan, Danganronpa, High School DxD New, The World God Only Knows: Goddesses

Attack on TItan

Campy fun, typical shonen writing, Lots of death whether they were brutal or cartoony. Our main protagonist Eren is annoying at times but what’s even worse is the single minded adult bystanders who can’t even see the obvious. Mikasa’s badass except when she’s inseparable from Eren. Let’s not forget the outstanding soundtrack. The first OP song will be stuck in my memory for quite some time, 2nd OP not so much. Production IG did an fairly good job with the action animation and choreography. Wish quality stayed consistent but alas. If you love destruction porn, this is it! Overall, it’s definitely worth the watch. Don’t expect a complete story though since the manga is still going and the plot is still unresolved at the end. At least there was closure.

Danganronpa: The Animation

That bear is the single most annoying I had to suffer through. Intentionally stereotypical and predictable at times, it kept my interest to see through the entire thing. I hate endings where the screen goes blank right when the characters are about the enter the new world or something without any sort of logical reasoning.

High School DxD New

Fanservice. That’s what I came here for. Didn’t even pay attention to the plot because let’s face it, it’s just there for the background for the cleavage to show. Once again, we have a blind idiot as our main character. Can’t these anime writers grow some balls on these characters? It doesn’t have to be hentai but look at Yosuga no Sora. I much prefer the first season. Things were getting a little desperate here when the cross dressing shota made its debut.

The World God Only Knows: Goddesses

I was so close in writing this show off due to the abrupt start. It’s like they expected I’ve read the manga in between the 2nd season and this so therefor, I had no damn clue what the hell was going for the entire first ep. Despite of all that, I kept watching because it’s so entertaining. That ending though, wow. When was the last time an anime ending has moved me? Those tears! I felt so bad for Chihiro, even Keima felt guilty which is great character development for him. This one’s definitely a keeper.

Regarding High School DxD, is the plot good? I read this post earlier that says if the fanservice was dropped it’d still be a great “action-horror adventure”, and that aspect appeals to me. Do you agree, or are the boobs all that the series has going for it?

Well, can’t say it’s “good” but at least it has a clear beginning, middle, and ending. So it’s fairly consistent to its premise. Since it’s adapted from a light novel, expect that level of writing. I’ll say this though, it’s a story better than Sword Art Online.
