A Short Jesus Anime

This is a depiction of his crucifixion in the criminal on the right’s point of view.

I have to say, as a Christian, I found it rather intriguing. Who would’ve thought anime and Christianity would ever cross one day? Take a medium from another country where Christianity is less than 1%. It may have been impossible but this is truly a blessing.

Anyways, this anime short took my most beloved story from the bible which made a huge impact on me years ago when I started to take my faith seriously. That passage is Luke chapter 23 verses 39-43. It’s the part that starts on 6:30+ in the video. I’m not sure which version of the bible they used for this because it didn’t feel entirely accurate judging from the script but it’s close enough.

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[d]

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

In this anime short, there some things added in that weren’t originally from the bible. For one is the criminal’s past doing, and the ending where he’s in heaven. Even though it’s not mentioned in the bible, it’s pretty obvious he went to heaven. During the crucifixion, he humbled himself to Jesus by confessing himself as a sinner and accepting him into his heart. This is what it means to be a follower of Christ. Jesus took everyone’s sins on to himself because he loves us so much. There is no love that’s greater than a friend who’s willing to sacrifice himself for others.

God, we’re so unfaithful. We are sinners and we don’t deserve your presence. We contradict ourselves, and yet, you still love us. We thank you for sending your son Jesus and having him die on the cross for our sins to be forgiven. Remind us what he has been through… for us. What could we have done without you Lord? Please show us the path where you want us to go. Help us love one another. I also pray for those who don’t know you. Please reach out to them before their time is up. They need you. Open their hearts to you Lord. We thank you once again. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
